PSU Women finish 2015 w/ Saint Mary

PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

The Pittsburg State women's basketball team (9-2) will close out 2015 with a match up against the Saint Mary Spires on Wednesday, December 30 at 5:30 p.m. in John Lance Arena. 

Saint Mary is 4-8 on the season. The team has lost seven of its last eight games, including a 86-73 loss to York College on December 17, right before the holiday break. As a team, the  Spires average 59.0 ppg, while allowing their opponents 67.1 ppg. The team outrebounds their opponents just slightly, 40.0 to 39.7 rpg. The Spires with .434 from the floor overall and .274 from three-point range. Saint Mary commits 20.2 turnovers per game. 

Imani Dixon leads the Spires with 13.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. A trio of players average 8.0 ppg or higher, Kelsey Switzer (8.7 ppg), Andrea McClary (8.5 ppg) and Jessica McAdams (8.0 ppg). McAdams leads the team in blocks with 15. Ashley Hinkle is the team's assists leader with 31. 

The Gorillas are 9-2 on the season with their only losses at the hands of ranked teams Missouri Western and Emporia State. The Gorillas score 76.2 ppg, while allowing opponents only 61.0 ppg. The team outrebounds its opponents 39.4 to 35.5. The Gorillas shoot .421 from the floor overall, including .330 from three-point range. Pitt State commits only 10.6 turnovers per game, while dishing out 14.4 assists per game. 

Three players score in double figures for the Gorillas, led by Mikaela Burgess with 16.3 ppg. Cathy Brugman adds 13.5 ppg and Kylie Gafford contributes 12.3 ppg. Gafford leads the team with 6.5 rpg, while Brugman is just below her with 6.3 rpg. Gafford leads the team with 16 blocked shots on the season. She is second in steals (13), while Paige Imhoff comes off the bench to lead the team in steals with 14. Hadyn Herlocker leads the team with 37 assists on the season, though Imhoff is not far behind her with 35. Herlocker has a team-best 3.36 assist/turnover ratio. Burgess is the team's top three-point shooter with 33 threes made on the season and a .371 three-point shooting percentage.
