Police say a five-month-old is the victim of child abuse and now fighting for her life.  Newton County Sheriff Ken Copeland believes the abuse happened at a home at 1111 Delaware yesterday.  Copeland says a mom brought the five-month-old girl to a Joplin hospital because the girl was having difficulty breathing.

Hospital workers called law enforcement because they suspected child abuse.  The child was flown to Kansas City Children's Hospital, where she is in critical condition with severe injuries to her head and brain.

No arrests have been made yet.  Both the child's mom and dad are at the hospital with the girl, but are not allowed to be in the same room as the child.
