Jasper County prosecutor intends to retry case after supreme court decision

Updated:

The Missouri Supreme Court overturns a conviction in a Joplin murder case.  Daniel Hartman was one of five men charged with killing and robbing Jacob Wages in 2012.  Hartman was arrested and sentenced to life in prison for second degree murder and 15 years for burglary.

Now, the supreme court says the trial judge should not have excluded testimony from the penalty phase from a witness who claimed another defendant confessed to killing Wages.

Hartman remains in prison.  Jasper County Prosecutor Dean Dankelson says he will pursue another murder trial of Hartman, though he hasn't decided yet if he'll pursue either a first or second degree murder charge.
