Three people including victim's sister charged w/ 1st Degree Murder

Kenny Wright, District Attorney for the 13th Prosecutorial District of Oklahoma:

Felony arrest warrants were issued this morning in connection with the January 19, 2016 murder of Caleb Friend in Miami, OK for the following individuals: Brandon Lee Jones, 39 years old of Picher, OK; John Kevin Rather, Jr., 34 years old of Miami, OK; and Kylie Friend, 17 years old of Miami, OK. Mr. Jones and Mr. Rather are charged in Ottawa County District Court w/ Murder in the First Degree by Deliberate Intent or, in the alternative, Murder in the First Degree by Felony Murder. Ms. Friend is charged as an adult pursuant to Title 10A, section 2-5-101 of the Oklahoma Statues w/ Murder in the First Degree by Felony Murder. All three are charged w/ Conjoint Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Conjoint Robbery. For First Degree Murder, all three defendants face sentences of life or life without parole. For Conjoint Robbery, which is robbery by two or more people, the defendants face from 5 to 50 years of imprisonment. For the Conspiracy count, the defendants face up to ten years in prison. As of 4:30 PM, March 28, 2016, Jones and Friend have been taken into custody. Law enforcement officials are actively searching for Mr. Rather. 

These are the first warrant resulting from a thorough and detailed investigation which has been conducted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Miami Police Department w/ assistance from the District Attorney's 13th District Violent Crimes and Drug Task Force, the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, and the Quapaw Marshal Service. The investigation continues regarding other individuals who may have helped attempt to cover up the crimes after the fact.

    The Crawford County Sheriff's Office says nearly 30 head of cattle have been stolen from an area farm. On September 22nd, 2018, authorities responded to the area of south 520th Ave (Country Club Rd) and 205th Street about the theft of cattle. The cattle, belonging to Wood Farms, are 600 to 650 lbs, all black in color with some having white faces except one all red steer.     The crash happened around 7:25 a.m. on September 24th, 2018 in McDonald County, Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 26-year-old Billy Penn was driving a Dodge Neon north on Route E, about five miles south of Powell, when he crossed the center line and hit a GMC Sierra head-on. Penn, of California, Missouri, died at the scene. The 57-year-old driver of the GMC had minor injuries.More >>
