At approx 7:08 PM on 4/4/16 a six year old child was struck by a vehicle. The child was riding her bicycle on the roadway on 7th ave near the intersection of L St NW, when a 1997 white Ford truck struck her then departed the scene. Medical personnel treated the child who was then flown to Tulsa for further treatment. The driver of the white ford truck called Miami Police Department and turned himself in. He was unaware at the time he had hit a child.

The driver was identified as 29 year old William Yandell of Miami.  Yandell was taken to BRHC hospital and submitted a routine breath test, although no symptoms of intoxication were present at the time.  Yandell was then arrested for leaving the scene an injury accident and transported to Ottawa County Jail.

The incident is under further investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
