PSU's Robertson Earns 4th Pitcher of the Week Award

KANSAS CITY – Pittsburg State sophomore Emmie Robertson has earned her fourth AstroTurf MIAA Pitcher of the Week honor, the league announced on Tuesday (April 5). This honor leads the Gorillas into a week where they will face the team that ended their season in 2015 and the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the MIAA.

Robertson finished last week with a 3-0 record and a save. She earned wins over Southwest baptist, Lindenwood and Lincoln. She earned the save throwing two innings of relief in game two at Southwest Baptist. Robertson gave up only one run in 19.0 innings on the week, while striking out 23 batters and walking only two. She finished the week with a .162 opponent batting average, surrendering only 11 hits in the four games. Only two of those 11 hits were for extra bases.

The Gorillas, who have already played their final home MIAA games, will take their undefeated league record on the road this week.

Up first for Pitt State is Central Missouri, this afternoon (Tuesday, April 5) at 3 and 5 p.m. in Warrensburg. The Jennies are currently sixth in the MIAA with a 9-7 league record and 20-18 overall. The Gorillas are hungry to face the Jennies again after Central Missouri ended a successful 2015 campaign for the Gorillas with two wins on Championship day of the MIAA Tournament. Lauren Mabe leads three players hitting .300 or better with a .327 batting average. The Jennies have three pitchers with very similar records and between 3.27 and 3.42 ERA. 

On the weekend, the Gorillas will face the MIAA's third place team, Northwest Missouri on Friday at 2 and 4 p.m. and the second place team, Missouri Western on Saturday at noon and 2 p.m.

The Bearcats are led by senior pitcher Kendle Schieber, who shared Co-Pitcher of the Week honors with Robertson this week. Schieber has a 2.07 ERA and a 16-4 record on the season. She has thrown 125.0 innings and fanned 88 batters. Three additional pitcher aid Schieber, as the team has a 2.44 ERA. Northwest Missouri hits .310 as a team and is led by Rebecca Maher with a .408 average. Four additional players are hitting .350 or better. Tori Blythe leads the team with 35 runs scored, while Jessica Rawie is the RBI leader with 35. The Bearcats are 29-9 overall and 13-5 in MIAA play.

Missouri Western is in second in the MIAA with a 30-10 overall record and a 15-3 mark in conference. The Griffons have six players hitting better than .300 on the season, including current MIAA Hitter of the Week Taylor Hamilton. The freshman hit six home runs in six games last week and recorded 17 RBI. She is hitting .372 ov the season and leads the team in home runs and RBI. Morgan Rathmann is the team's top hitter with a .396 batting average and 42 runs scored. She also leads the team in stolen bases with 20 in 23 attempts.

Shyanne Saladino and Janie Smith lead the Missouri Western pitching staff. Saladino has a 2.29 ERA and a 14-3 record, while Smith has a 2.90 ERA and a 16-7 record with a save. 

The Gorillas are 32-9 overall and are currently leading the MIAA with a 16-0 record. Katy Remy leads the Gorilla offense with a .398 batting average and 35 runs scored. Nicole Nease leads the team in RBI with 38 and she and Kylie Guthier share the lead in home runs with 11 a piece. Catie Cummins is hitting .310 on the season and leads the team in doubles with 16 on the season, including six last week. Ashton Pratt is the team's stolen base leader with 15 in 16 attempts., though Sierra Hall is not far behind with 10 in 14 attempts. Hall is the Gorillas' second leading hitter with a .346 average. Pitt State is hitting .300 as a team.

Robertson leads the pitching staff with her 1.56 ERA and 18-4 record with a save. She leads the MIAA with 194 strikeouts on the season in 143.2 innings pitched. Morgan Myers adds a 2.61 ERA and an 11-4 record, while Zoe Price in 3-1 with a 2.42 ERA.
