At the April 11, 2016, City of Duquesne Council Meeting, the board of aldermen approved the City’s Annual Audit done by KPM CPAs and Advisors of Springfield. The audit is a public record and is available for review at Duquesne City Hall. The city received a clean opinion on our financials which is the best opinion a city can receive. The City was commended for three things: (1) reviewing expenditures during the year and amending the budget as necessary to avoid expending more than the budgeted amount to ensure compliance with the budgetary statue (Chapter 67, RSMo), (2) the City adopting a policy requiring court bonds and receipts be deposited in a timely manner and (3) that someone other than the City Clerk now receives and reviews the bank statements and cancelled checks prior to turning them over to the City Clerk to prepare the bank reconciliations.
During my tenure as Aldermen and my first year as Mayor this is the first time that the city has received positive feedback from our financial auditor on improvements in our financial record keeping process.
Two years ago, the aldermen voted to change auditors after having the same auditing company for over ten years, a recommendation of the State Auditor’s Office.
