MSSU students get competitive at research fair

Joplin, MO -

Some students at Missouri Southern got a chance to showcase some skills outside of the usual classroom routine.  A research fair included students in each of the four schools at MSSU.

They competed over research topics like, "The Psychosocial impact of dissection room experience on undergraduate students," to, "Do lower prices lead to lower U.S. domestic oil production?"

Students and staff say the event provides a way for more creativity and to also develop intellectual curiosity.

"For the kids, it's confidence that what they learned from freshman year when they showed up, or pre-freshman year at Southern, and now after four years, they've actually been able to learn stuff they wanted to learn and are prepared," says Economics Professor Jonathan Adongo.

First place winner received a $200 gift certificate to MSSU's bookstore.  Second place winner received a $100 certificate to the bookstore.
