Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

Missouri Southern Baseball had eight of its players named to the 2016 MIAA Academic Honor Roll today. Senior Chris Hoffman and junior Richie Gorski led the Lions as they also earned MIAA Scholar Athlete honors for maintaining a 3.5 or better GPA and were named All-MIAA for the 2016 baseball season.

Gorski had a GPA of 3.68 in Kinesiology while earning second team All-MIAA honors as a utility player for the Lions this past season. Gorski, a native of Streamwood, Ill., batted .315 for the season while starting and playing in 49 of the 51 games this season. Gorski finished the season with 20 doubles, 10 home runs, four triples, and 33 RBIs.

Hoffman maintained a GPA of 3.6 in Education while earning second team All-MIAA honors in the outfield. The Lake Villa, Ill. native finished the season second on the team in batting with an average of .367 and 13 doubles, six home runs, and four triples.

To achieve honor roll status, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 and have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

Of those 172 student-athletes nine have earned the MIAA Scholar Athlete Award, which is given to those who have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50, have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms, and, if competing in a championship sport of the MIAA, earn All-MIAA honors. Newcomers and MIAA Academic Excellence Awards will be given out following the end of the 2015-16 school year.
