Two Vehicle Crash Leads To One Death

Updated:
MIAMI, OKLAHOMA -

An 11 year-old girl was killed in a two vehicle crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike/Oklahoma Interstate 44. The accident occurred at 3:44 PM on Sunday (June 12th). According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, , a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Mark Conboy, 46, of Plano, Texas, and a 2007 Volvo 770 tractor trailer driven by Kadir Brkic, 43, of Arnold, Missouri, were both westbound on the turnpike in the outside lane.
The fatality report states Brkic slowed his vehicle due to weather and traffic conditions and Conboy lost control while trying to avoid a collision with Brkic's vehicle.

The OHP report lists conditions of rain and wet asphalt at the time of the collision and states the cause of the collision is under investigation. Conboy's vehicle departed the roadway to the right striking a guard rail and traveled approximately 90 feet before coming to rest in an embankment pinning the driver, Mark Conboy.

Mark Conboy was transported by Integris Baptist EMS to Freeman Hospital in Joplin, where he was admitted in critical condition with leg and internal trunk injuries.

A passenger in Conboy's vehicle, the 11 year-old girl, was pronounced dead at the scene from head and internal trunk injuries.

Another passenger in Conboy's vehicle, a 12 year-old boy of Plano, was transported by Quapaw EMS to Freeman Hospital in Joplin and was treated and released. Brkic was not injured.

OHP reports both vehicles were equipped with seat belts and airbags and were in use by the drivers in both vehicles and the boy passenger in Conboy's vehicle.
