1870s Former School of George Washington Carver to be Restored

A school built in the 1870s is being restored to its original condition in Neosho. It's not just any school, but the first school of George Washington Carver. They will be removing the patio, the siding, as well as the kitchen in order to restore the school's former look. The Carver Birthplace Association is teaming up with volunteers from Historicorps to make this possible. They're hoping that following the full restoration they can turn it into an historic park and offer classroom walk throughs. The project has been in the initial stages for about seven years, but they hope to have the school fully restored sometime in the next year.
