INDEPENDENCE, KANSAS -

Independence Community College (ICC) has expanded the course offerings of its cosmetology program to meet the market’s trends and the college’s growth.

For the first time ever, ICC will run three different cohorts of students through its cosmetology program and provide these students with new courses.

To do so, the program will be expanding beyond its current space to provide more room for classwork. Additionally, plans are under way to offer new specialties, which could be offered as soon as the fall 2017 semester.

“We have adapted our curriculum to better serve students starting in this field,” said Kara Wheeler, associate dean of online and continuing education. “We will be offering courses in some of the trending industry specialties, with hopes of expanding the program in the future to include Barbering and Massage Therapy.”

The added specialties will be available to new students, as well as those already in the program. Currently, the program features beginner through advanced courses in cosmetology, including manicures, pedicures, and facials and coursework in cosmetology instructor training.

News of the expanded facilities and course offerings comes on the heels of record growth for ICC’s summer semester in which the college reported a 90 percent increase in enrollment.

Although these students are too young to vote, they're plenty old enough to care about issues our country is facing today. "Ever since Parkland happened, the shooting at Park Land.
