5 Inches of Rain Drenches Fields Before Jock's Nitch Softball Classic
PITTSBURG, KANSAS -
Many areas of the four states got a drenching Thursday. Pittsburg saw more than 5 inches of rain yesterday. This made it extremely challenging for Pittsburg Parks and Recreation to get the Don Gutteridge Sports Complex ready for the Jock's Nitch Softball Classic that starts Friday evening. Divets full of 20 to 30 gallons of water each formed around some of the bases. There was even a portion of Bill Russell Field that was submerged in 2,000 gallons of water. Parks and rec employees have been working hard since early Friday morning. The park superintendent believes if the weather stays how it is, the fields will by ready and the tournament should go on as scheduled.
