Veteran Walks In Pouring Rain For Independence Day Salute and Memorial to Sister-in-Law

Updated:
PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

Veteran and pastor from Tennessee walks in the pouring rain in Pittsburg as an Independence day salute to the veterans of the state of Kansas. 70 yr. old Vietnam veteran Walter Mcgill walked 5 miles through the soaking wet rain all the while holding his flag starting from the intersection of highways 47 and 69 and ending at the Aldi off of Broadway in Pittsburg. Drivers honked and waved as Mcgill stopped to give a salute every few hundred feet. Several even stopped to offer the 70 yr. old some water. He walked to honor the veterans of Kansas, but he also dedicated the walk to the memory of his sister-in-law who passed away 10 years ago in a car accident.
