Officials: New Bakery With At Least 50 New Jobs Heading To Joplin

Updated:
Joplin, MO -

A vacant Joplin baking facility has sold, and local experts say new jobs will follow.  The Annie's baking company left the Joplin facility, at the corner of Junge Boulevard and Maiden Lane, last year,  Before Annie's, there was a Safeway bakery there.

The Jasper County Recorder's office shows the building has been purchased by baking company HS Terra Missouri.

A Missouri Workforce Innovation Board member says the company is looking for many workers.

"We're talking about a complete facility, from top to bottom," says Bubba Evansco with the Workforce Innovation Board of Southwest Missouri.  "Maintenance, janitor, accountants, clerks, office people, warehousing people, production people.  We're talking a complete facility has to be filled."

Joplin's chamber of commerce president says it's important to keep the building used.

"The facility itself has been in the community for nearly 70 years, it's been a great food processing, and particularly baking facility, and has been a great part of the Joplin community," says Chamber of Commerce President Rob O'Brian.

"This will have a big economic impact.  We've been focused on just getting this now vacant building back into productive use, which we hope to see happen really before the end of the year," says O'Brian.

O'Brian says the company plans to initially hire 50 people, with the possibility of hiring more later.

Joplin's chamber of commerce plans to release more details of this new business next week.  There will also be a job fair next week for this new bakery.  It'll be Wednesday, July 20th, from 4 pm to 7 pm, and Thursday, July 21st, from 10 am to 2 pm, at the Missouri Job Center at 8th and Wall streets in Joplin.

Evansco says the new company wants employees who have a National Career Readiness certificate.  It's free to get the certificate, and you can register by visiting the Missouri Job Center's website and looking for NCRC testing sign-up information.
