Volleyball Earns AVCA Team Academic Award

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

The Missouri Southern volleyball program has been awarded the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award the organization announced.

The AVCA presents the award to collegiate and high school programs that maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a scale of 4.0 or 4.1 on a scale of 5.0. The 2015-16 squad combined for a 3.48 grade-point average.

"The coaching staff is very proud of all the current and former volleyball players that helped earn this award," said head coach John Napier. "At the end of the day, it's academics that will carry you forward in life.  I'm positive the world will be a better place when these intelligent student-athletes graduate."

The Lions were one of seven MIAA schools that received the honor joining Emporia State, Fort Hays State, Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri, Central Missouri and Central Oklahoma.

In total, 764 teams made this year's list breaking the previous record of 757 set last year.
