Wyandotte, OK Man May Not Live Long Enough to See Wall Built in His Honor
WYANDOTTE, OKLAHOMA -
Terry Butterfield says he lives to serve his city, state, and country. He's a four year army veteran as well as a former county police officer of more than 40 years. That's why it was no surprise when terry came strolling into the Mayor Leon Crow's office one day.
"Terry's idea was we need to honor the veterans who served and our own forces that are serving now. I said okay since it's your brain child you've got to come up with the idea."
Terry was in charge of design and funding of the $12,000 project that began in late July, But not long after Terry had to step down from his position as city clerk, he was given a very short time to live. Mayor Crow along with the town board decided to dedicate the wall to Terry.
"Our goal and our plan is to try and have it finished before something happens and he can't......."
Lone builder on the project Russell Wasson wants nothing more than to get the wall completed in time for his old friend to see it. so much so that he was surveying it during our interview.
That would be alright... That would be worth it all."
