Officials believe the vandalism occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning. That's when veterans memorial cemetery owner Ronnie Joe Garrett woke up to see that more than 100 feet of vinyl fencing near the entrance of the cemetery was missing.
"When i came out here and found out that it was gone, I notified the sheriff's department about it and they came out."
"We don't have any leads as to who it could possibly be, but we do have some evidence that we have collected," says Ottawa County Sheriff Derek Derwin.
A hacksaw and pry bar were found near where the fence was taken. A fingerprint was taken off of one of the items and sent over to the lab for processing. The are three separate sections of missing fence. Something officials still don't understand.
"I have no idea why someone would want to do this here we don't have any motivations as to why someone would do this."
It's a volunteer ran cemetery, so replacing the 15-hundred dollars worth of stolen fence won't be an easy task.
