Behind the paintings, pottery, and performances at the 2nd annual Joplin festival of the arts.. Are artists like Jennifer Leeper.
"I love it. Just being able to meet with a variety of people and getting their understanding with what's going on in the arts. Educating people as well as just getting to know others is really enriching."
Festival co-chair, Steve Doerr, says despite artists like Leeper. Joplin isn't necessarily known for it's art. He hopes this event can change that.
"Alot of people come up and say i didn't know there was such great artists in the area, and there are. Joplin and the surrounding areas have wonderful artists. And so it's a great way for people to see hey there's some real talent here in town."
Artists came out from 20 different cities around the four states to display their crafts in the 48 booths lining main street. Hoping to draw locals like Pat and Dave Schultz.
"I think it's wonderful because sometime the arts neglected and it's a great way to see good local artists. We like to see what's going on, see our friends. It's a great thing."
