EECP therapy has been helping to treat heart patients in the Joplin area since 1994, but ever since the tornado in 2011 the closest place to get the treatment was Springfield. An issue for patients like Kenneth Pippin.
"And you have to go everyday an hour back and forth, it just wasn't feasible. As soon as he told me this was coming back in i told him to get me on the list."
The therapy allows patients to increase their daily activity while taking less medications.
Treatments are given for one hour each day, five days a week, for a total of 35 hours.
"Through a series of cuffs that are placed on the leg and they sequentially inflate and deflate. It provides and improved flow to the arteries and it helps the smaller arteries open up and provide blood flow," says Dr. Jahan Zeb.
Kenneth Pippin says, "Oh i couldn't wait for it to come back. In the past i use to have to have a stint every four to six months. When i took the last treatment. When i took the treatment i went over two years without having a stint put in."
Although Pippin wouldn't exactly relate it to a massage, he says it's better than anything else there is to offer.
