PSU launches new Veterans Memorial website

Updated:

Pittsburg State University has launched a new website for its Veterans Memorial Amphitheater, just in time for Veterans Day.

The new website is available at psuvetmemorial.org. It was created by PSU’s Office of University Marketing and Communication, is mobile-friendly and features a much improved search tool.

“Visiting the Memorial is an emotional experience for our veterans, their family and friends,” said Gregor Kalan, director of web marketing. “We designed the website for mobile usage so that visitors can easily use their phones or tablets to find the location of specific names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall or on the more than 3,300 individualized pavers, located throughout the Memorial.”

The new website is first of several planned upgrades to improve the Memorial’s visitor experience.

Future improvements include the installation of a permanent paper directory, dedicated wireless internet service and the availability of wireless tablets for visitors’ usage.

“The Veterans Memorial Amphitheater is a unique and important part of Pittsburg State’s campus,” said Kathleen Flannery, vice president for university advancement. “Thanks to funding from the Pritchett Trust and local donors we’re able to ensure this memorial continues to stand as a symbol of our community’s respect and honor for those who have worn the uniform in service to our country.”

A special Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 11, in the Veterans Memorial Amphitheater. Veterans and their families will be joined in the observance by sixth graders from Pittsburg Community Middle School and St. Mary’s Elementary School.

The keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Tim Senecaut, director of custodial and general services for the PSU Physical Plant. Senecaut, a PSU graduate, is a retired Army colonel whose numerous military assignments include service in Afghanistan and Iraq.
