Two suspects charged in Newton County shooting

Utley was charged with first-degree assault on an officer, with bond set at $100,000; armed criminal action, $100,000 bond; felon in possession of firearm, $10,000; and drug possession with intent to distribute, $20,000 bond.

Bell was charged with first-degree assault on an officer, $100,000 bond; and armed criminal action, $100,000 bond. He was wanted on outstanding charges of failure to appear on a drug charge, and felony burglary.

On 12-19-16 Deputy Andrew Snider while on patrol observed a vehicle run a stop sign. He attempted to stop the car on Jefferson Street in Neosho. When he first initiated the car stop the vehicle fled south bound. Shortly after that the passenger leaned out of the vehicle and began firing a gun at Deputy Snider. Multiple shots were fired but none struck the Patrol car. At the intersection of Jefferson and North streets the suspect vehicle went off the road into a yard. At that time 2 male subjects fled from the vehicle running in different directions. Within 20 minutes with the help of the Neosho Police Department both suspects were taken into custody. Two handguns as well as methamphetamines were recovered from the car. One of the guns was stolen in Newton County.

The two people arrested were as follows:

  • Joel A. Bell- w/m 29 YOA from Carthage Mo.
  • Andrew M. Utley- w/m 24 YOA from Webb City Mo.

    Shots Fired near Joplin School, Multiple in Custody

    Joplin Police are at 23rd and Grand for reports of shots fired. According to Captain Trevor Duncan, authorities got a report of a male with a gun walking in the middle of the road. As officers were headed to the scene, Duncan says police received reports of multiple shots fired. Authorities have detained several people as they investigate what happened. No injuries have been reported at this time.

    A Texas company is recalling 2,490,593 pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry taquitos that might be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. The items were shipped to distributors nationwide. The ready-to-eat meat and poultry taquitos were produced from July 1 through Oct. 10, 2018. The following products are subject to recall: 4.5-lbs. cardboard cases containing 24-count Go-Go Taquitos "Beef Taco & Cheese Taquitos" with a case code 86183 ...
