Arson Investigation in Pittsburg; No injuries

PITTSBURG, KANSAS -

On Monday, March 13, 2017, at approximately 8:45 AM, units from the Pittsburg Police Department and Pittsburg Fire Department were dispatched to 507 W. 6th St. regarding a house fire. Upon arrival officers made contact with 23 year old Kendrick P. Castillo, of that same address. The house was found to be ablaze and the fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department. There were no reported injuries to the resident or fire personnel. There were no other persons present at the residence at the time of the fire.

There were indications that the fire was intentionally set, and Mr. Castillo was later arrested for arson and was transported to the jail at the Crawford County Sheriff's Office for booking. Mr. Castillo is being held in lieu of a $50,000.00 bond. It is unknown if the structure will be a total loss. The Kansas State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting in the investigation of this incident.
