KBI Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Labette County

KOAM news is on the scene and will have coverage of the investigation on the evening news.  The KBI News Release follows:

LABETTE COUNTY – On Saturday, May 6, the Labette County Sheriff's Office contacted the Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) at approximately 9:30 p.m. requesting assistance investigating an officer involved shooting which occurred in Mound Valley, Kansas.
 
Preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:45 p.m. Saturday, two deputies from the Labette County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting during a domestic incident at 511 Walnut St. in Mound Valley. After arriving on the scene, deputies encountered a 40-year-old white male with a firearm outside the residence in the driveway. It is believed that both deputies fired at the suspect. The KBI continues to investigate the exact details which led to the deputies firing their weapons. 
 
The suspect was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. His condition is stable at this time. No deputies were injured in this occurrence. 
 
Also found at the scene was a 77-year-old white male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin and is in stable condition. The initial investigation suggests this victim was shot by the 40-year-old white male. 
 
The Labette County Sheriff's office is investigating the initial shooting, and the KBI is investigating the subsequent officer involved shooting.
 
Both investigations are ongoing.
