Joplin Vitamin Manufacturer Faces Growing Litigation

Updated:

Joplin, MO -

A Joplin vitamin manufacturer already facing a lawsuit from the City of Joplin is now also being sued by two companies for alleged breach of contract.  Joplin City Manager Sam Anselm says Jeff Hicks, owner of JT Naturals in Joplin, is still involved in litigation over a $160,000 loan.  The City says that loan, inked in 2010, was given to Hicks to help with another business he owned at the time.

This year, two other companies, Admiral Insurance and Cintas Uniform, filed lawsuits asking for thousands of dollars in payback for alleged breach of contracts by Hicks.  Litigation is ongoing.

Hicks declined an on-camera interview.

The owner of a New York-based vitamin distributor, Vita-Gen Labs, alleged Hicks failed to pay him back for vitamins that never shipped; however, Vita Gen Labs' owner says Hicks recently paid back money in full.  Hicks sent us a statement saying there was a mistake with that shipment.

We asked the FDA to expedite to us any updated safety inspections done at JT Naturals; previous FDA inspections noted the possibility of product contamination.  The FDA sent us a letter denying our expedition request, stating we had "not demonstrated a compelling need that involves an imminent threat to the life or physical safety of an individual."  We haven't yet received other information.  Hicks hasn't sent us copies of most recent inspections, as we requested.
