"Clay Day" - KOAM TV 7

"Clay Day"

Updated:

Residents in Sarcoxie, Missouri are coming together -- to support one of their own.
Eight-year-old Sarcoxie native Clay Wormington -- is battling leukemia.

Carter: "I was just, I was just sick to death, I was just really sad because he's one of my best best friends."
So residents of Sarcoxie got together to help Clay with a car wash, auctions, and dinner.

Megan: "Many people from the community got together with multiple different ideas of types of fundraisers we could do to raise funds for this family."
Carter: "It's really nice to see everybody, all of my friends and all of Clay's friends to come out and help."

Clay was diagnosed with leukemia this past April, and has been receiving treatment at the Saint Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis.
Something even strangers know costs money...and came to contribute.
Carter says he wants to do so much more for his friend.
Carter: "I wish I could go see him and pray for him and do everything I could."

Carter's mom has been watching Clay and Carter play sports and grow up together for the past three years.

Megan: "It hits close to home, and you don't even want to imagine...that...as a parent, that's your worst nightmare."
When it comes to the bond between Clay and Carter --
Carter: "Clay's been my best best friend, I've never let him down, he's never let me down."
Carter says he's already got an agenda for when Clay gets better.
Carter: "When I get to see him, I'd like to play with him and play football with him and anything I can.

And as he and others scrub their way to financially support the Wormington family,  Carter  has a special message for Clay...
Carter: "Hey Clay, you're my best best friend, I'll always be there for you."
