SEK Humane Society Director Resigns-Board President Denies Alleged Mismanagement

Pittsburg, KS -

It is another shake up to the staff at the Southeast Kansas Humane Society. Director Kelci Cooper has resigned. Cooper's letter to the board of the non-profit organization said,  "It is with deepest regret that I must leave my position at SEK Humane Society, given the following reasons:
Unsafe work practices, Unpaid time worked, Poor/lack of communication w/management, Hostile work environment and Work/life balance.

Cooper's  claims are similar to those reported by five employees of the humane society who abruptly resigned  back in July. They complained of budget constraints and a lack of training for employees at the  non-profit shelter.

Longtime board member Mary Kay Caldwell painted a different picture of the end of Cooper's time at the humane society. She said,  "It  was a mutual agreement with the board. And there is no validity to the charges she's making."
Cooper said she received extra training from On Command in Joplin to be a certified dog trainer and  she plans to work with area rescues to help animals in need.
