The red cross steps in to help residents of more than a dozen apartments after a fire at a Neosho, Missouri complex. The fire happened at an apartment complex on Beaumont Street Sunday morning. The fire left 16 units without electricity with four of them considered non-livable. No one was injured. The American Red Cross is offering basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter to the residents impacted by the fire.
MALL SECURITY CONCERNS
Two security guards at Joplin's Northpark Mall are speaking out over alleged safety concerns. They resigned just before Christmas. The security guards showed us pictures of what they say is another guard at the mall sleeping on the job. They also say it wasn't unusual for another security guard to lie about checking the mall's fire sprinkler system. The security guards told KOAM it seems mall higher-ups don't view security cameras as a crime deterrent.
North and South Korea have officially begun talks for the first time in about two years. The rare talks focus on the north's possible participation in next month's Winter Olympics in Seoul. Tensions between both nations have escalated in recent years over the north's nuclear program.
Mandatory evacuations have been issued in Southern California ahead of a major winter storm expected to bring heavy rain and mudslides to the region. Residents have spent the last few days sandbagging in areas recently devastated by wildfires. Forecasters say the storm could also bring heavy snowfall in the Sierra.
