Authorities Find Body of a Texas Man Near Coffeyville, KS

Updated:

Authorities say they have found the body of a Texas man in Montgomery County, KS.

The family of Cory Barnes reported him missing on Saturday morning after he had not come home. He was a Texas resident but was working in Coffeyville, KS. They said he walked out of a Coffeyville downtown business on Friday night around 10:45 p.m.

Montgomery County Deputies and Investigators along with the Coffeyville Police Department and Kansas Wildlife and Parks Officers searched for him on Monday (April 16). Authorities in part concentrated on searching several square miles on the east half of Montgomery County. At about 3:30 p.m. Barnes's body was found near the Verdigris River Bridge east of Coffeyville by a Deputy in an airplane who had been searching the area.

Authorities say they don't know the cause of death yet. They're waiting for the results of an autopsy.

Sheriff Dierks says, "My Deputies along with Coffeyville Police Department Officers, and Wildlife and Parks Agents work really well together", and "that cooperation between agencies is so important when it comes to completing a task of this magnitude." Sheriff Dierks asks for privacy for the family as they grieve the loss of a loved one.
