Owner of Building Destroyed By Fire in Pittsburg is Charged With Arson

The Crawford County Attorney filed charges today (April 19) in a Pittsburg arson case. 64-year-old Grant K. Dahmer is charged with arson. The Fire Chief says he is the owner of the building that he allegedly set fire to.

April 12th, 2018:
The Pittsburg Police Department says they have arrested one person in connection to the fire at 111 E 10th Street.

Fire crews responded to the fire just before 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 7th. The unoccupied commercial building was extensively damaged inside. The State Fire Marshal was called to investigate. On Wednesday, April 11th, a 64-year-old man was arrested. Authorities are requesting a charge of incendiary arson.

The Pittsburg Police and Fire Departments assisted with the investigation. They're asking anyone with information to contact them at 620-231-1700 or at their tip line, 620-231-TIPS (8477).

    A Joplin man who plead guilty to two separate thefts in Cherokee County received a sentence on July 10, 2018. Christopher Whitney was sentenced to 16 months in prison for stealing personal property from rural home in Galena, KS and stealing a vehicle from a home near Rive ton, KS. After the two burglaries, Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Whitney, where they found the stolen items and a quantity of methamphetamine. Prior to the sentenc...
