Cooks Wanted for The World's Largest Calf Fry Festival in Vinita

Updated:

The Vinita, Oklahoma Area Chamber of Commerce invites cooking teams to come out and have a ball.

The 39th Annual World's Largest Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off will take place on Saturday, June 2nd, 2018. The Craig County Fairgrounds and Community Center will be full of food, crafts and more from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Organizers expect more than 2,000 people to attend.

But before the fun, organizers are calling on cooks and vendors to sign up.

To quote a release from the Chamber of Commerce, "The World’s Largest Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off is like a BBQ competition. But the main course is, well, bull testicles."

Cooking teams will be given 40 pounds of the famous cowboy cuisine to prepare using their own secret recipes. The team with the most votes will receive trophies and bragging rights.

If teams have other secret recipes, they can also compete for the best beans, breads and cobblers.

The cost to enter as a cooking team is $100, which pays for 40 pounds of calf fries, serving cups and festival wristbands for the team.

Organizers say it wouldn't be a festival without vendors. All booths are 10 feet by 10 feet. The price to be a food vendor is $75, commercial vendors are $50, handmade arts and craft vendors are $25, and non-profits are free.

Cooking teams and vendors can register online at www.vinita.com or call the VACC office at (918) 256-7133.

For those who want to attend and fill their tummies, general admission for the Calf Fry is free. Gates will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tasting kits, including calf fries, beans, breads and cobblers, are $5 in advance or $10 at the festival. Calf fries will be served from 11:00 a.m. until they're gone.

The 39th Annual World's Largest Calf Fry Festival & Cook-Off is sponsored by Arvest Bank, Cherokee Nation Businesses, KAMO Power, Oklahoma State Bank, Park Hill Hotel & RV Park, The Junction Internet, U.S. Cellular Premier Locations and Westco Home Furnishings.

For more information about the event, contact the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce at 918-256-7133 or by email at chamber@vinita.com.
