Seats available at historic window restoration and weatherization workshop

The Historic Preservation Commission has secured the professional services of Bob Yapp from Hannibal Missouri to conduct an intensive 3-day boot camp teaching student to remove, restore and re-install double hung windows in accordance with standards of historic properties.

The workshop is scheduled for May 18 through May 20 at the Empire Market, 931 East 4th Street. Work will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Spots for 18 students are available, with registration and participation set at $100 per student. The event is co-sponsored by Historic Murphysburg Preservation, Inc.

Yapp, having 40-plus years of preservation experience, will lead students during the work shop. Double-hung windows will be removed from the Schifferdecker and Zelleken houses currently in the Joplin's Historic Neighborhoods project in the Historic Murphysburg Residential neighborhood west of Joplin's downtown.

During his career, Yapp has restored more than 6,500 windows. He hosted About Your House with Bob Yapp on PBS and has rehabilitated over 160 historic properties. He is nationally recognized as a window restoration expert.
