To commemorate National Autism Awareness month, Freeman Health System and Ozark Center hosted its annual Walk for Autism, Saturday. Officials say a record 522 participants gathered at Missouri Southern State University for the mile long walk.

The goal of the event was to raise money for the Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism, and spread awareness and support for those with autism. In addition to the walk, there were bounce houses, balloon animals, and a number of fun activities for kids and their families.

    The Office of the U.S. Attorney Western District of Missouri says a Joplin man was sentenced today (May 22,2018) for his role in a conspiracy to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine in southwest Missouri. 25-year-old Santiago Soto-Garcia was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool to 25 years in federal prison without parole.     The Kansas Office of the Attorney General says 37-year-old Dejay Lynn Schlegel pleaded guilty today in Wilson County District Court to several charges including murder. Schlegel was one of two people arrested in the death of 57-year-old Michael P. Elam, who was found dead inside his home after it burned down on December 13th, 2016. According to court documents, two suspects broke into his home at 509 Wisconsin in Neodesha, KS. In April of 2017, authorities arrested Schlegel and ...

    Driver's licensing services resume in Montgomery Kansas after security concerns subside. The ARCO building driver's license office in Independence, KS was closed down on May 18th amid a series of intentionally lit fires. The services were moved to Fredonia, KS temporarily. The fires are under ongoing investigation by police and fire officials, and they are confident in the security of the building.
