Vandalism Rampage by Teen in Stolen Truck Damages Erie HS & St. Paul Business

Updated:
ERIE, KANSAS -

UPDATE:
A St. Paul, KS  teenager went on a vandalism crime spree Saturday night. It started at  mac's Git-n-Split in St. Paul  Owner Michael Beachner said, "About 10:30 p.m.  the alarm went off here. We didn't get right over here. When we did finally get over here, the cops were here before we got here and we found the place just as you see it, broke into. Just ransacked the place, tearing everything up he could tear up."

The vandal then turned broke into several of Beachner's  vehicles before stealing his pickup  truck. At some point the St. Paul bank front door's glass was broken but Sheriff Jim Keath said the bank was not robbed.  The 16 year old suspect then drove to
Erie high school where he rammed through the front  entrance with the truck and drove down the halls eventually ending up stuck in the shop doors at the east end of the building.

He had documented his crash and the damage on Snapchat and residents alerted police of the video. Erie Police Chief Tyler Riggs said, "I responded after I  was notified and was able to locate the individual still in the building where he was apprehended." He added, "It came through the building at a high rate of speed. It caused significant damage to a lot of very personable items in the building."

The school made a major effort to get everything cleaned up and the superintendent is  adamant that school not be canceled in the wake of destruction.

The suspect is in juvenile custody in Neosho County. Charges will be filed with the Neosho County prosecutors office and a detention hearing will be held for the youth.

Producer Kaden Milner contributed to this story.
