Vouchers for Veterans

JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

A joint project between HUD and the VA was announced Monday. The Joplin Housing Authority is set to receive more than $90,000. That will provide vouchers to help pay for housing costs for 25 homeless veterans in Joplin.

Joplin has previously received vouchers to support veteran housing across the city. With the latest award, the Joplin Housing Authority now has vouchers for 85 veterans.

In total, six public housing authorities in Missouri Monday received money to permanently house 65 homeless veterans.

    The crime happened on August 7th, 2017 around 3:30 a.m. at 4th and Sergeant Avenue in Joplin, MO. Officer Joel Taber says he saw a truck traveling north on Sergeant Avenue from 7th Street pulling a trailer without any lights. He pulled the vehicle over. Taber says that's when the driver, Keith Wald, started the truck and fled.     Well done 5th grade class at St. Mary's Colgan Catholic Schools in Pittsburg, KS! The students created a video challenging the larger community to make the world around them better than they found it.   The video was inspired by The Greatest Showman.  Joe Dockers directed it and Carol Anne Smock played piano. Again, very well done! 5th grade SME 2018

    Senate bill 652 passed in the Missouri legislature. It repeals sections of an old law that prevented sheriff's departments from hiring people from neighboring states.
