Crowder Softball Earns #3 Seed in Region 16 Tournament

The Crowder College Lady Riders are the #3 seed in the Region 16 tournament, which begins on Friday in Joplin. The Lady Riders finished the regular season with a 50-11 overall record, including a 21-2 mark at home. They ended the regular season on a four game winning streak, with all four wins coming by way of shutout.

Crowder will face #6 State Fair on Friday morning at 11:15 at the Joplin Athletic Complex.

JOPLIN, Mo. — The NJCAA Region 16 Softball Championships will open Thursday night with their post-season banquet and start play on Friday morning at the Gene Bassman Softball Complex at the Joplin Athletic Complex.

The NJCAA Region 16 Tournament, consisting of seven teams from Missouri, will compete for the opportunity to advance to host the NJCAA District J tournament against the NJCAA Region 11 Champion with the District Champion advancing to the NJCAA World Series at the Canyons Complex in St. George, Utah.

The tournament host is Crowder College in cooperation with the Joplin Sports Authority.

Friday’s Schedule:

9 a..m. — North Central Missouri (4 seed) vs. Maple Woods (5 seed)

11:15 a.m. — Crowder (3 seed) vs. State Fair (6 seed)

1:30 p.m. — Jefferson (2 seed) vs. St. Charles (7 seed)

3:45 p.m. — Three Rivers (1 seed) vs. 4/5 winner

6 p.m. — 3/6 winner vs. 2/7 winner

Saturday’s games will begin at 9 a.m. with the final game of the day scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m.

Saturday, the championship game will take place at 12 p.m., followed by the if necessary at 2 p.m. Pairing will be announced on the JSA Facebook page Wednesday evening.

This year marks the first time since Joplin has hosted the NJCAA Region 16 Championship.

Tournament results will be posted immediately upon the completion of each game on twitter @JoplinSports and on the Joplin Sports Authority Facebook page.  Daily tournament passes are $5 for adults and $3 for students per the NJCAA.

    A Joplin man who plead guilty to two separate thefts in Cherokee County received a sentence on July 10, 2018. Christopher Whitney was sentenced to 16 months in prison for stealing personal property from rural home in Galena, KS and stealing a vehicle from a home near Rive ton, KS. After the two burglaries, Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Whitney, where they found the stolen items and a quantity of methamphetamine. Prior to the sentenc...
