Two Gorillas Earn All-MIAA Softball Honors

RELEASE FROM PITTSBURG STATE ATHLETICS:

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Pittsburg State University sophomore catcher Kala Holder and junior utility player Kristen Van Hoosen earned All-MIAA honors Wednesday (Apr. 25). Holder was named to the first-team All-MIAA squad, while Van Hoosen received honorable mention All-MIAA recognition.

Holder had a team-leading 39 runs scored, 14 doubles, 15 home runs and 38 RBIs while batting a team-best .345 in her second season in the Pitt State program. The Olathe, Kan., native leads the MIAA in home runs and ranks fourth in slugging percentage (.740). She becomes a two-time first-team All-MIAA selection after earning first-team honors as a utility player. She also garnered MIAA Freshman of Year accolades in 2017.

Van Hoosen ended the season with a .284 batting average, 14 home runs and 38 RBIs in 53 games played. The Omaha, Neb., native ranks third in the conference in home runs (14).

The Gorillas finished the regular season with a 22-33 overall record and a 12-14 mark in MIAA play.

    Parsons Police Department is investigating a case of an unresponsive toddler. According to media release officers were called to 2515 Stevens for a two year old female child who was unresponsive.  Police say the investigation is active and ongoing.  KOAM/FOX14 reached out to Parsons Police Department to answer questions about the child's condition,  they are not answering questions or releasing further details of the investigation at this time. More >>
