Charges Filed in Southeast Kansas Narcotics Investigation

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says they executed two search warrants this past week as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. Three people have been arrested and charged.

The first search warrant was executed Sunday, April 21st, 2018, at a home on Southeast Boone Lake Road. Authorities seized marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

The second search warrant was executed late Thursday night, April 26th, 2018, on a Baxter Springs home. Deputies seized methamphetamine, marijuana and a gun. Three people were arrested at this home.

53-year-old Rickey Mayberry, of Baxter Springs, was arrested on charges of possessing meth and marijuana, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, felony possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a firearm. He was arrested and posted bond.

51-year-old Stacy Lynn Castillo, of Baxter Springs, was arrested for possessing meth and marijuana, possessing felony and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia. Castillo was taken to jail in lieu of $10,000 bond.

40-year-old Catherine Mallory, of Baxter Springs, was arrested for possessing meth and marijuana, possessing drug paraphernalia. She was taken to jail and held on a $7,000 bond.

"This investigation remains ongoing and our office anticipates additional suspects being charged with various drug related crimes as we move forward," stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

Authorities say the narcotics were packaged to suggest distribution.  Deputies also seized other evidence and paraphernalia that suggested drug distribution.

The County Attorney filed charges this afternoon (April 27th).

    Crews Battle Vehicle Fire On Highway 69

    The Cherokee Township, Weir, and Galena Fire Departments fought a vehicle fire today (May 25) around 7:30 p.m. on Highway 69 near Highway 103. According to authorities a truck was heading south on 69 Highway when the vehicle started smoking. The truck was then completely engulfed by flames. The driver managed to escape the vehicle without any serious injury. Crews had the fire put out by 8:00 p.m. No word yet on what caused the truck to catch on fire.More >>
