Local input on the consideration of impeaching Missouri Gov. Greitens

The Missouri House speaker says most Republicans in his chamber signed a petition for a special session, so lawmakers can consider impeaching Governor Eric Greitens.

U.S. Senator  Roy Blunt from Missouri, appeared on Meet the Press and said the criminal and legislative processes should proceed to decide whether Governor Greitens is impeached or not.

"When you reach conclusions without allowing people to be fully heard, that's not a good thing. And you know the governor ran on the basis that he had a lot of say bad about everybody in politics. But he did get elected, and there is a way to deal with these issues that i think is more appropriate than a bunch of politicians saying what ought to happen" said Blunt.

Representative Bill White said talk of impeachment is premature.

"Our constituents that I have down here overwhelmingly support the governor still. And we have criminal procedures that will have to play out as they are" said White.

One Joplin resident said he doesn't think Greitens should be impeached.

"They impeached Bill Clinton but they never took him out of office. It sounds to me like another witch hunt that they're trying to create to cause problems for the state" said Randy McCullough.

And other residents disagree 

"Because of his illicit activities. You know, taking a woman and taking pictures of her without her consent, you know, partially nude is very uncool and then he sponsored a charity and then took the list of the donors and used that for his own personal reasons" said Laura Emery.

While those are some of the accusations against the governor, he denies any criminal wrong doing and said the affair was consensual.  He is set to go on trial May 14th on an  invasion of privacy charge.

    The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) says K-7 between U.S. 160 and K-102 in Cherokee County is once again open to traffic. The seven mile section of K-7 has been closed for reconstruction since the spring of 2017. The highway opening marks the completion of the 11-mile reconstruction of K-7 from U.S. 160 north to U.S. 400. Reconstruction of the northern four miles was completed in late 2016.     Two southeast Kansas residents pleaded guilty yesterday (Sept. 24) to second degree murder and other charges for a cap on sentencing. They both also agreed to testify against a third suspect. According to court documents, robbery and shooting happened on January 29th, 2017 at 2334 E. Zora St. in Joplin, Missouri.
