NEO Blue-Gold Scrimmage Scheduled for Thursday

Updated:

RELEASE FROM NEO ATHLETICS:

MIAMI — Serving the dual purpose of evaluation with a light-hearted atmosphere thrown in, the traditional Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College Blue-Gold intra-squad football scrimmage at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 3 on Red Robertson Field brings the curtain down on six weeks of intense workouts.

Open and free to the general public, the scrimmage with consist of two 15-minute quarters.

Fans should enter the stadium on the west side only.

The scrimmage will be officiated by collegiate officials and will feature full pads and live contact.

Both squads are comprised of a full compliment of offensive and defensive players.

“We want this to be a reward for all the hard work, time and effort these players put in during a very physical and competitive spring session,” first year Golden Norse head coach Zach Allen said. “As coaches, we’ll use the scrimmage as an overall evaluation as to where we are as a team heading into the summer.

“But, we would like for our fans to come out and see for themselves what effort and athleticism these young people have,” Allen said. “We want to create a fun-filled experience for our players while at the same time show our fans some quality football.”

First-year defensive coordinator Zach Crissup will be in charge of the blue team while first-year offensive coordinator Andrew Rice will be the gold team head coach.

“Overall, we’re in pretty good physical shape even though we have a few bumps and bruises,” Allen said. “Ideally, I would like to see us take between 80 and 100 snaps between both teams.”

Allen and his staff will meet with each player to discuss their football future on Monday, May 7 through Wednesday, May 9.
