KANSAS SCHOOL FUNDING FIX

  • The Kansas Legislature has fixed an $80-Million error in its latest school funding bill.  The error was discovered just a day after lawmakers passed a Supreme Court mandated fix for the state's school budget.  Governor Jeff Colyer is expected to sign the fixed bill.  The new school funding law will phase in a $534-Million dollar increase to education funding.

STOLEN GUNS

  • Carl Junction police investigate a weekend break-in at Circle T Collectibles.  They're asking the public for tips, after someone stole a number of firearms.  Sometime between late Friday night and early Saturday morning, thieves took off with five modern pistols, a World War II era pistol, and a rifle.  The owner of the store is offering a $500 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.

CARDINAL ON TRIAL

  • Vatican Treasurer Cardinal George Pell will stand trial for sexual abuse offenses.  Cardinal Pell will face at least one charge of historical sexual abuse.  The 76-year-old stands accused of sexually abusing multiple people in his hometown of Melbourne; he denies the claims.

SOUTHWEST AIRLINES MEETING

  • Today President Trump meets with the crew of the Southwest Airlines flight that experienced a deadly engine explosion.  Many of the passengers onboard have called Captain Tammie Jo Shults, one of the first women to become a navy fighter pilot, a hero.  At least one passenger on the flight was killed.

  • "Mass Casualty Incident" at Table Rock Lake

        The Southern Stone County, Missouri fire protection district says it and multiple agencies are working a "mass casualty event" at Table Rock Lake.     According to the district's Facebook page, crews are staging at the Branson Belle dock, but the crash did not involve the Belle.     No word yet on the number of casualties.        More >>

    Joplin Man Sentenced For Cherokee County Thefts

    A Joplin man who plead guilty to two separate thefts in Cherokee County received a sentence on July 10, 2018. Christopher Whitney was sentenced to 16 months in prison for stealing personal property from rural home in Galena, KS and stealing a vehicle from a home near Rive ton, KS. After the two burglaries, Jasper County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Whitney, where they found the stolen items and a quantity of methamphetamine. Prior to the sentenc...
