Cherokee County Attorney Jacob Conard says a Joplin man has been sentenced to more than ten years in the Kansas Department of Corrections.

31-year-old Shawn Michael Orr plead guilty to one county of robbery in Cherokee County District Court. In May of 2016, authorities say he was wearing a motorcycle helmet when he robbed the Galena, KS Pizza Hut at gunpoint. Surveillance footage from area businesses show Orr left on a motorcycle to Missouri.

The Galena Police Department identified the suspect that day. A Joplin Police Department task force arrested Orr the next day. The County Attorney says Orr confessed to the robbery during his interview with Galena investigators.

"This case is a great example of how social media can be a very effective law enforcement tool, as well as the importance of communication and cooperation between agencies in neighboring states," says Cherokee County Jake Conard. According to Conard, Orr was sentenced on Monday, April 30th, 2018 to ten years and two months in jail.  He's currently serving a prison sentence in Missouri and will be transferred to Kansas next month to begin serving his sentence.
