The Woman Behind the 2018 Annie Baxter Award - KOAM TV 7

The Woman Behind the 2018 Annie Baxter Award

Updated:
JOPLIN, MISSOURI -

"That's when I started in this field, determined that this would not be a secret"

Alison Malinowski Sunday joined the Lafayette House in 1980. Since then, bringing awareness to domestic violence has been her life's work.
She's the 17th woman to win the Annie Baxter award, an award for Missouri women making contributions to their communities.

"In some cases, women are under represented. This is true, often times in politics and even among business owners in the professional world, having an award that specificity honors women, helps highlight where women are contributing to their communities" says MSSU's Megan Bever, PhD.D.

This year's group of finalists was a unique one, in the way that they all help people who are vulnerable, from their roles in the legal system, helping victims of domestic abuse, to community clinics.
As well as breaking though a glass ceiling.
"All the nominees have all broken through part of that glass ceiling, being executive directors, being able to be on television and talking about your passion, sitting on a court bench in Jasper County with great distinction" says Alison.

And it wasn't only a panel of judges inspired with Alison's work.

"Alison is just really inspiring, not only to the staff but also to our clients.she's a great example of what passion and hard work can do" says Louise Secker, from the Lafayette House.

"That's my mission, we're not going to sweep it under the carpet, that traps people if they don't think people will believe them" says Alison.
