Jeff Bezos' Fitting New Friend: The Joplin Boy Who Accidentally Bought 100 Toys From Amazon

Updated:
Joplin, MO -

Jeff Bezos may have a new six-year-old friend in Joplin.  Bezos is the founder of Amazon, and this six-year-old recently gave Amazon quite the business load.  But it was all an accident.

We were first introduced to this boy after the Joplin tornado.  Karson Johnson wasn't even born yet and getting ready to make his mark in the world.

"Very excited.  Ready.  Anxious, as well," Jamie Johnson, Karson's dad, told us in 2012.

Karson's shopping spree began with his dad only buying a new screen protector for an iPad.  "When the screen protectors came in on Monday, there was a little toy that came with it," says Jamie.

You know those websites that ask if you want to stay signed in?

"You have to be aware to close out your account," says Michelle, Karson's mom.  After dad bought his screen protector, Karson was able to make one-step purchases using dad's credit card information stored online.

"Toys "R" Us is closing, so they didn't have this plush," Karson said to us while holding that toy.  He apparently did some research.

"Sixteen separate sales, a total of 100 items, totaling about $1,800 dollars," says Jamie.

He also bought mom an Elvis poster.  The poster was returned before being delivered, along with some other shipments.  "My heart melted," says Michelle.

Mom took home video of Karson opening several of the shipments.

"Mom, I think I know what I'm keeping," said Karson in that video.

Mom replied, "You're not keeping anything!"

Karson tried to make a deal with mom.  "No, just one!  Just one!  Mom, it's one!"

Karson will be able to keep one or two toys.  We asked him if mom and dad have kind of taught him that everything in life you want you can't have.  "No," said Karson with a grin.

Memories might do the trick.

Michelle, in her home video, said, "Take pictures of what?"

Karson said, "Of these toys, so I remember 'em.  So I remember 'em!  I'll miss you, Balloon Boy (a toy)."

We asked Michelle if years from now this will be something to look back on.  "Like the 'tornado baby,' she said, referring to how we first met Karson.

All of the purchases were made through Amazon Prime and are eligible for free return shipping.
