Recycling Center Annual Drop-Off Takes Tires Filling Semi Trailers

Updated:
Joplin, MO -

Joplin residents in big numbers took  advantage of the annual free tire disposal day.  Tires for recycling  filled two  semi-trailers and part of a third at the Joplin recycling center.
There was a ten tire limit.. Most of those will be hauled to a processor for shredding and sold to make products like playground cover or garden hoses.. The annual tire drop off is funded by Liberty Utilities- Empire District and the city as a community service.

Recycling coordinator Mary Anne Phillips said, "We have a mission to clean up. Clean up the community. We're always trying to do different clean-ups, and of course tires seems to be very popular. We've done it for many years now. Tires can, if they sit around your back yard, they can collect water and breed mosquitoes plus your neighbor doesn't wanna see your tire collection."

The center regularly recycles cardboard, plastic bottles, newspaper,  magazines, metal, and glass.
And a self-serve document destruction service is also complimentary.
