Children Left In Vehicle, Police Seek Child Neglect Charges

Updated:

Webb City Police are called to two separate reports of toddlers left unattended in a vehicle.

On May 6th around 5:00 p.m., a caller reported seeing three toddlers under the age of 3-years-old buckled up in a truck with no supervision.

Officers arrived at the Atwoods/Big Lots parking lot at 1899 S. Madison. They discovered that a 31-year-old Webb City man had left his children in the truck for several minutes while shopping at Atwoods. Authorities say the kids were released to their mother uninjured.

Shortly after that incident, police say they responded to another report of child endangerment at 2077 Stadium Drive (Webb City, MO). The caller said at least one toddler was left along in a minivan at the Webb City Health and Rehabilitation Center. Officers say they found three unsupervised toddlers under the age of 3-years-old inside the van. They say the father had stopped at the facility to see a family member. The 20-year-old Webb City man was arrested on an outstanding warrant. The kids were released to their mother uninjured.

Webb City Police say, in both cases, a report was made to the Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline and charges will be sought for endangering the welfare of a child. Police encourage parents and care-takers to ensure their children are supervised at all times and say do not risk a child's safety for a few minutes of convenience.
