Severe weather chances

Severe weather chances

Updated:

We have had a much different severe weather season this year than what we had last year.  In 2017, we had a whopping 17 severe weather events.  By the middle of May, we had already seen 12 events and the Goodman, Missouri tornado.  The Goodman tornado was definitely a big event, but all of the other events were mainly mid grade severe events.

So far this year, we have only had 4 severe weather events.  Thankfully we haven't had any tornado warning in the viewing area.  We are actually in a prime spot for bigger severe events over the next 4 weeks, but that doesn't mean we will see tornadoes across the region.  This simply means we will have a few set-ups for bigger severe weather events.  Next week is an interesting week.  We don't had a day that we have high severe weather chances.  However, we will have numerous waves continue to roll through during the week.  Finally the main wave will push out next weekend upping our severe threat.  With chances for severe weather each day next week, I pulled out my severe weather index.  The severe weather index is a scale from 1 through 10, the closer we get to 10 the higher the severe weather chances.  The highest number I have for next week at this time is a 4 on Wednesday, but again we at least have slight chances each day.  This will be something to watch closely next week.
