MSSU Track and Field Hosting Last Chance Meet

RELEASE FROM MISSOURI SOUTHERN ATHLETICS:

Joplin, Mo. – The Missouri Southern men's and women's track and field teams will play host to the final regular-season meet tomorrow as the Lions will host its Last Chance meet inside Fred G. Hughes Stadium.
 
This meet is just as it is named a 'last chance' for entrants to improve or qualify for the National Championships which will take place on May 24-26 in Charlotte, NC.
 
The Southern men (11) and women (10) have 21 combined provisional NCAA qualifying marks and each team has one automatic qualifying mark.
 
Leading the women is defending National Champion in the pole vault Emily Presley and MIAA Champion in the heptathlon Allie Heckemeyer. Presley is the top-ranked individual in the pole vault this year and is one of three Lions to have at least a provisional qualifying mark as Elena Bisotto ranks 14th and Jordan Banker is 39th. Presley has an automatic qualifying mark in the event.
 
Heckemeyer has provisional qualifying marks in the high jump, triple jump and the heptathlon. She ranks fifth in the heptathlon, 7th in the triple jump and 16th in the high jump. Wynter Nekola also has a provisional in the high jump, ranking 34th. 
 
Jasmine Deckard ranks 6th in the 100m and 10th in the 200m, while Destiny Akannam is 11th in the 400m.
 
Bryan Burns leads the Southern men with provisionals in three different events. He ranks 2nd with an AQ in the discus, 9th in the shot put and 10th in the hammer. Junior Joseph is 36th in the hammer, while Garrett Austin ranks 29th in the javelin.
 
Matt Willis ranks 16th in the 400m hurdles, while Andrew Wells and DeShaun Williams both rank 38th in the high jump. Dean Howard is 30th in the pole vault, while Brendan Watkins is 9th in the triple jump and 20th in the long jump.
 
Throwing events begin at noon with the men's shot put and women's javelin. Events on the track begin with the women's triple jump and women's pole vault at 1 pm and the men's high jump at 3:30 pm. Running events start at 2:30 pm with the women's 4x100m relay. The final event of the night is the women's 4x400m relay and is slated to begin at 5:05 pm.
