Update: Seneca Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested In Oklahoma

Updated:

Update (May 15, 2018):  Authorities release the name of the armed robbery suspect in Seneca, MO.  The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says 18-year-old Leighton Quapaw from North Miami, OK has been charged with first degree robbery and armed criminal action.  He was arrested around 6:00 this morning.  Authorities say he was arrested off South 590 Road in Miami and that evidence found at the scene matched what the suspect wore in the robbery.  Leighton was taken to the Ottawa County Jail.

May 15, 2018: The robbery happened around 11:45 p.m. on May 14th, 2018, at the Big Daddy's Gas Station in Seneca, MO (817 Washington Avenue).

The Seneca Police Department responded and were told by the store clerk that a white male came into the store and tried to purchase alcohol and cigars. The clerk said after the suspect's card was declined he left and came back a short time later and showed a knife and demanded money. The clerk handed the suspect an undisclosed amount of cash. Authorities say as the suspect left, the store clerk fired numerous shots from a handgun at the suspect. Police were not sure at the time if the suspect was hit by the gunfire.

Seneca Police sent out information to area law enforcement. They were looking for a vehicle described as a White or Silver Chevy Monte-Carlo. Police said it would be damaged by bullets and from crashing into a pole.

After putting out a surveillance image of the suspect, Seneca Police got a call from someone at Indigo Sky Casino saying the suspect has been sitting right beside them gambling.  Seneca authorities reached out to the Eastern Shawnee Tribal Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.  The suspect left the casino, but Tribal Police were able to help identify the suspect.  He was later arrested at a home.  The suspect was uninjured.

The Seneca Police Chief expects charges to be filed by 5:00 p.m. on May 15th.
