2018 Spring Buddy Poppy Drive - May 24-26

Updated:

2018 Spring Buddy Poppy Drive on 24-26 May 2018

Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5293 Southtown-Joplin will be distributing Buddy Poppies in front of both the 7th Street and 15th Wal-Marts during 24-26 May 2018 starting at 8:00 AM each until 4:00 PM.

According to Fred Pugh, Post 5293 Commander, "VFW By-Laws state that the proceeds from Poppy distributions must be used to benefits disabled and needy veterans and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans."

"What better way to help our veterans in the Joplin/SW Missouri communities than by distributing this little red flower of remembrance," Pugh said. "We encourage everyone in Joplin and surrounding communities to stop by either Wal-Marts and get a Buddy Poppy to help honor the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice." Pugh also reply, "If you are not able to visit us, and if you see another VFW Post distributing their poppies, give to them instead." "We are ALL 'Veterans Helping Veterans.'"

In 1923, the Veterans of Foreign Wars became the first veterans' organization to promote a nationally organized campaign for the annual distribution of Poppies, which are assembled by disabled and/or hospitalized veterans. More than 14 million Poppies are assembled today and VFW and Ladies Auxiliary members' nation wide raise more than $15+ million annually from these distributions.

Founded in 1899, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is the nation's oldest major veteran's organization with more than 2 million veterans, male and female, from World War II to Afghanistan service eras.
